We left Indianapolis and headed north to Chicago.
The ride was only 3 hours and we traveled back into central time so on the clock the drive took 2 hours! We went right to the ballpark, US Cellular Field, home of the White Sox.
Our seats were upper deck but right behind home plate. There were two foul balls within a couple of rows of us. The only complaint about the park is that we were restricted to the upper deck. After our daily dose of Take Me Out To The Ballgame, Randy and I have enjoyed making another lap around the field but not at the White Sox. We were not allowed to go down and walk around with the lower level field. Us common upper deck folk needed to stay in our upper deck locale. That did not go over well with me.
White Sox 7, Athletics 2
After the game we went back to the hotel, our fancy Doubletree. The room was really nice but it seems that the nicer the hotel, the less stuff you get. No free breakfast and no free internet so we are in Kansas City now at a Clarion getting caught up.
Dinner was awesome! We wanted to get authentic Chicago deep dish pizza and chose Lou Malnati's. I had seen it on tv and it got great reviews.
We walked there and it was nice to be in a big city again. The people, the taxis, the street smells all felt like home. The restaurant was in a really cool area of town really reminded us of NYC. Lots of restaurants, outdoor cafes and a big line at Malnati's. Always a good sign in front of a restaurant because it means the food is great. However when the both of us are hungry it means disaster. Randy was the culprit this night and after 45 minutes of anxious waiting we got our table. They let you pre order your pizza because it takes 30 minutes to cook the deep dish style so we placed our order for the "Lou," a sausage and cheese classic pie.
The pizza was worth the wait. Buttery crisp crust even in the middle of the pan with layers of cheese and sausage and then the sauce on top. Awesome.
On our walk back to the hotel it started to rain. We wouldn't see the sun again until leaving Chicago on Tuesday morning.
Don't worry though, we had a good night of sleep to get ready for some Chicago touristy stuff!
