Another long drive from Chicago to Kansas City, 8 hours.
We drove west through Iowa on I-88 and then again on I-80. It's fun to be on I-80 so much. It's our route from home to Westminster and Erie so to see parts of it more west has been cool. At Des Moines we took I-35 south into Kansas City. A beautiful day for driving, would have been great to have this sun yesterday in Chicago but at least the drive was easy.
So Kansas City is the center of America, at least it seems like it according to the map!
Our hotel is right across the street from Kaufman Stadium, home of the Royals, and Arrowhead, home of the football Chiefs.
We were able to walk to the stadium and we got there plenty early because it was another give away day. T-Shirt Tuesday! The shirts are really nice and we actually got sizes that will fit. I gotta say, we went to a t-shirt tuesday at Citi Field and the we got the left over big sizes and the shirt was just alright. But KC is for real! The shirt was designed by a fan and features the city skyline within the Royals logo on a nice blue shirt! Holla!
We stood right behind the fountains to eat and it was so pretty! I forgot to bring my sweatshirt though and yet again we had a chilly night. It was down to 60s! It is August right?
After our ballpark dinner, we walked through the new Royals Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame captured Kansas City's long history of baseball. The team the Royals were playing, the Oakland Athletics, actually played in Kansas City from 1955-1967 before relocating to Oakland
As I mentioned earlier, the stadium went through a renovation that was completed before Opening Day 2009. Kauffman Stadium was also host to this years MLB All Star Game!
Before
After
The huge scoreboard was redone, more seats surrounding center field and all the amenities of a modern ballpark. The fountains are equipped with color changing LEDs that light up the water gorgeous hues of purple, blue, orange and red.
Another low scoring game until the 5th inning where the Royals broke out for 5 runs!
One more W for our roadtrip! Royals-5 Athletics-0
We are now 6-1...next we are headed back east to St. Louis!
